Hugh Jackman provides a witty reaction to speculations that Taron Egerton may be chosen to portray the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version of Wolverine.
Hold onto your adamantium claws, folks, because Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman, has just responded to rumors that Taron Egerton might be taking over the role of the iconic X-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As we all know, Jackman brought Wolverine to life on the big screen for a whopping 17 years, from X-Men in 2000 to his emotional final appearance in Logan in 2017.
Taron Egerton as Wolverine
Don’t worry, true believers; he’s not done with the character just yet – he’s set to reprise the role in Deadpool 3 alongside Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth.
As we all know, Jackman is the one and only actor who has portrayed the adamantium-clawed mutant in live-action, making the role his own for nearly two decades. But now, as the MCU prepares to introduce the X-Men, the rumor mill is buzzing with speculation about who will take up the mantle of Wolverine.
Empire Magazine sat down with Jackman to chat about his return as Wolverine in their upcoming March 2023 issue, and of course, the topic of Egerton’s potential casting couldn’t be ignored.
It’s understandable that Jackman, who’s become synonymous with the character, might feel defensive about someone else stepping into his adamantium shoes. But he still managed to give a light-hearted response that’s sure to put a smile on any Marvel fan’s face.
Taron Egerton
Back in 2014, Taron Egerton made his big-screen debut alongside Colin Firth in Matthew Vaughn’s action-packed spy flick, Kingsman: The Secret Service. The film was a smash hit, propelling Egerton to stardom and leading to a sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, in 2017.
But that’s not all – rumors began swirling that Egerton was in talks with Marvel Studios about potentially taking on the iconic role of Wolverine.
While it’s unclear what the outcome of those talks was, the possibility of Egerton stepping into Hugh Jackman’s adamantium claws certainly got fans talking.
Despite the excitement, Egerton himself expressed some apprehension about the prospect of playing Wolverine, given Jackman’s iconic character portrayal.
“I’d be excited but I’d be apprehensive as well, because Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it,” he said.
Nevertheless, we can’t help but be curious whether we’ll see Egerton donning the signature yellow and blue spandex soon.
Hugh Jackman’s highly-anticipated return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3
Hold onto your adamantium claws, folks, because Hugh Jackman is returning to the Marvel universe as Wolverine in the highly-anticipated Deadpool 3. But before you get too excited, it’s worth noting that this isn’t a permanent return for the beloved actor.
Ryan Reynolds confirmed in September 2022 that Jackman would be teaming up with him in the MCU, bringing two of the Fox X-Men franchise’s most popular characters into Marvel Studios’ rich universe.
But while this news is certainly exciting, it raises some important questions about the future of Wolverine and the X-Men in the MCU.
Many fans have been wondering whether it’s time for new faces to take on some of the primary roles in the X-Men franchise, and this team-up between Jackman and Reynolds only adds to the speculation.
Will we see a new actor take on the role of Wolverine in the future?
Only time will tell, but we’re just excited to see what kind of mischief Deadpool and Wolverine get up to in their first MCU adventure together.
Will Deadpool 3 Will Be Jackman’s Final Appearance as Logan?
Let’s talk about the upcoming Deadpool 3 flick and the big question on everyone’s mind: will it be Hugh Jackman’s swan song as Wolverine? Fingers crossed, he finally gets to don that iconic comic-accurate costume that’s somehow managed to elude him for 17 years on screen.
Maybe he can’t find it in his size?
Rumors are rife that the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars will introduce a bunch of Marvel Legacy heroes from different universes, and Wolverine could be one of them.
Or could we see a new kid on the block donning the adamantium claws? Taron Egerton has reportedly expressed interest in the role and even chatted with the Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige.
Looks like the race to be the next Wolverine is heating up faster than a Quinjet on full afterburners.
Will Jackman pass on the baton to Earth-616’s Wolverine?
Stay tuned, true believers!
What Taron Egerton Could Look Like as The New Wolverine
Let’s imagine for a moment what Taron Egerton could bring to the table if he becomes the new Wolverine actor.
Will he rock those signature mutton chops like a pro? Will his snarls be as fearsome as the original clawed crusader?
The possibilities are endless! Will he bring a new flavor to the character or stick to the classic Logan we all know and love? Whatever the case, one thing is sure: we can’t wait to see this badger-like Brit donning the adamantium claws!

Wolverine’s Appearance In Deadpool 3
Wolverine is back in action for Deadpool’s first outing in the MCU! Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of the sharp-clawed superhero catapulted him into superstardom when he first debuted in X-Men in 2000.
And even though he held the title of longest-running live-action superhero for a hot minute, he was eventually outdone by Patrick Stewart after his reprisal of Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
But let’s not forget the bromance between Jackman and Reynolds, which has been a highlight both on and off-screen.
Even though their respective characters only shared the screen once in Fox’s X-Men series (and let’s not even mention that travesty that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine), fans are beyond hyped to see these two in full force for Deadpool 3.
We don’t know yet which storyline Deadpool 3 will follow, but you can bet your bottom dollar there will be some multiverse madness going on, especially since it’s coming out just a few months before Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
And let’s be real, some of the later Fox films kinda wasted Wolverine’s potential, so we’re excited to see what Marvel Studios has in store for Jackman’s iconic character in the upcoming film.
It’s time to unleash those claws and prepare for wild superhero action!
