The most annoying cartoon characters of all time include Elmyra Duff, D.W. Read, Pearl Krabs, Scrappy-Doo, and Drizella Tremaine.
Let’s face it; we’ve all encountered those annoying cartoon characters that never seem to leave us alone.
Whether it’s Spongebob Squarepants constantly yelling “Mrs. Puff! Mrs. Puff!” or Bugs Bunny tormenting poor Elmer Fudd, these characters have a unique talent for getting under our skin.
But why do we feel this way about them?
Is it their irritating voices or annoying catchphrases? Or perhaps it’s because they never seem to learn from their mistakes and continue causing mayhem in every episode.
Whatever the reason, one thing is for sure- we can all agree that these annoying cartoon characters deserve a one-way ticket to the Island of Misfit Toys.
Annoying Cartoon Characters
So let’s raise our glasses (or water bottles, if you’re like Spongebob and can’t hold your liquids) to the most annoying cartoon characters ever.
Here’s to never having to endure their shenanigans again.
This list can differ depending on who you love, but you can all agree.
Elmyra Duff
Annoying Level: 9/10
Elmyra Duff, one of the more annoying female cartoon characters from the Looney Tunes franchise, often harms animals with her overpowering affection.
While she tries to hug and love them, she remains blissfully unaware of the discomfort and pain she inflicts. Her constant bubbly enthusiasm and naive innocence can irk viewers.
Ultimately, her actions and traits make her an overwhelmingly irksome character for animals and others around her.
Caillou
Annoying Level: 6/10
Caillou, one of the annoying characters in cartoons, exhibits a mix of care, curiosity, and a zest for adventure. He consistently seeks answers to many questions about his surroundings and shows a keen interest in learning.
However, in earlier episodes like “Caillou’s Cross Word” and “Caillou Joins the Circus,” he often acts out or gets frustrated when things don’t align with his expectations, ranking him a 7 out of 10 on the annoyance scale.
As the episodes progress, a noticeable shift in Caillou’s character is evident, with his shirt color changing from gray to yellow, signaling a personality evolution for an older Caillou.
All of the Angry Birds
Annoying Level: 9/10
The Angry Birds Movie, adapted from the popular game/app “Angry Birds,” ventured into the world of cinema. In 2013, an annoying cartoon titled “Angry Birds Toon” also emerged, garnering only mediocre reviews.
While I haven’t watched it, some might argue it was an unnecessary adaptation. Unlike the original, this movie version provides the birds with legs and engaging dialogue.
Darla from Finding Nemo
Annoying Level: 9/10
Finding Nemo captivated audiences of all ages 13 years ago with its cross-generational appeal. Many endearing characters, including a slew of sidekicks, had theater-goers rooting for them.
However, one of the annoying female cartoon characters stood out: the little girl with braces and red ponytails. No character was more terrifying and irksome than this ginger patient at the dentist’s office.
Princess Morbucks
Annoying Level: 8/10
Princess Morbucks, one of the annoying characters in cartoons, is notably boastful, spoiled, greedy, and controlling. Whenever she throws a temper tantrum, her father quiets her down by giving her money. Her emotional meltdowns when things don’t go her way frustrate those around her.
Even though she yearns to join the ranks of the Powerpuff Girls, she doesn’t possess superpowers or crime-fighting experience.
Her envy grows because they won’t include her, but her wish to become a Powerpuff Girl stems primarily from superficial reasons, given the trio’s popularity in Townsville.
D.W. Read, Arthur
Annoying Level: 6/10
“DW” is often annoying to Arthur, despite her innocent appearance (he considers her a pest and once warned Sue Ellen that her initials stand for “Disaster Warning”; D.W. later adopted DisasterWarning99 as her username for Virtual Goose). It can be enjoyable for her to get Arthur into trouble sometimes.
Nermal, Garfield Gets Real
Annoying Level: 7/10
Nermal, one of the annoying cartoon characters in the Garfield franchise, stands as a prominent figure. This adorable grey tabby cat often sparks jealousy in Garfield.
Although he occasionally shows a kind side, Nermal frequently and deliberately annoys Garfield and sometimes Odie. This often prompts Garfield to attempt to send him to Abu Dhabi.
Nermal tends to make surprise visits, often on Garfield’s birthday, much to the latter’s chagrin. He exhibits a know-it-all all attitude towards Garfield, similar to Arlene, and at times, Nermal’s arrogance rivals or surpasses that of Garfield.
Sway Sway, Breadwinners
Annoying Level: 7/10
Green duck SwaySway wears a blue cap with a slice of bread. Slim and tall, with a big head, he has a good build. The feathers on his head and cheeks are green, and he has blond hair. The white V-neck t-shirt, the blue shorts, and the white socks expose an exposed stomach.
Emojis, The Emoji Movie
Annoying Level: 9/10
All emojis live in Textopolis, a bustling city hidden inside smartphones. Emojis have only one facial expression, except for Gene, an exuberant emoji with multiple expressions.
Gene enlists Hi-5’s help and a notorious codebreaker known as Jailbreak to become “normal” like the other emojis. As the three emojis explore the other apps, they discover a great danger that might threaten the very existence of their phones.
It would be nice to erase this movie from existence – but let’s hope that the burning wreckage serves as a warning not to repeat this mistake.
Pearl Krabs, SpongeBob Squarepants
Annoying Level: 9/10
Pearl, ranking among the most annoying cartoon characters for some, boasts the biggest brain in Bikini Bottom, mirroring the large brains of real-life sperm whales.
With her commendable math abilities, she’d make an ideal bookkeeper for Mr. Krabs’ restaurant. However, given her youth and immaturity, she often splurges her time and money at the mall.
While Pearl is cheerful, naive, and has good intentions, her boundless energy sets her apart. As the largest teenage girl in the ocean, she struggles to blend in with the rest of Bikini Bottom’s residents. Despite facing challenges bonding with her peers at Bikini Bottom High School, she remains friendly and trustworthy.
Dee Dee, Dexter’s Laboratory
Annoying Level: 8/10
Dexter’s older sister, Dee Dee, stands out among bossy cartoon characters with her ditzy, simple-minded, and hyperactive nature.
She energetically sabotages her brother’s experiments in most episodes and wrecks his lab. However, her actions stem from ignorance, not malice, and she genuinely loves her brother.
Ironically, she shows hypocritical anger when Dexter tampers with her things in her room. Besides her love for ballet and puppies, Dee Dee enjoys playing dolls with her friends, meddling in Dexter’s lab, and often embodies the typical stereotypes associated with girls.
Drizella Tremaine, Cinderella
Drizella Tremaine, one of the bossy cartoon characters and the secondary antagonist in Disney’s 1950 animated feature film, “Cinderella,” is the eldest daughter of Lady Tremaine and the biological older sister to both Cinderella’s other stepsister, Anastasia, and Anastasia herself.
She comes across as sadistically cruel, abusive, and arrogant, making her a markedly vicious character. Though Anastasia displays notable spitefulness towards Cinderella, Drizella emerges as the more malevolent of the two sisters.
Her deep-seated jealousy of Cinderella’s successes drives her to frequently land Cinderella in trouble, especially in the Kingdom Hearts series.
Angelica Pickles, Rugrats
Angelica Charlotte Pickles stands out as one of the “know it all” cartoon characters and serves as the series’ primary antagonist, though she also plays the role of a secondary tritagonist. Typically, by the end of the films, she joins forces with the babies against the main villains, positioning her more as an antihero.
In 2002, TV Guide ranked Angelica Pickles 7th on their list of the 50 Greatest Cartoon Characters of All Time. Her cousins, Tommy and Dil Pickles, label her a spoiled brat, and Tommy, along with the other Rugrats, views her as their archenemy.
Bendy, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends
In the episode “Everyone Knows It’s Bendy,” Bendy is a yellow and black striped imaginary friend. Jeff Bennett voices the character.
He will cry whenever the people he blames claim innocence and his guilt to gain sympathy. He is a troublemaker who blames everyone for the vandalisms he causes.
Mr. Frond, Bob’s Burgers
Working with Mr. Frond, a well-meaning but often incompetent guidance counselor, is a joy. Despite his good intentions, his students, especially Louise Belcher, easily manipulated him.
Cats, 90’s music, productive dialogue, and arts and crafts, such as quilting and theatre, are some of his favorite things.
Scrappy-Doo, Scooby-Doo
He often assisted Scooby and his friends in solving mysteries because he idolized his uncle Scooby. Despite his small size, Scrappy had a highly energetic and brave personality, and he was often seen directly fighting the various monsters Scooby and his associates encountered.
However, he showed a little cowardice at times.
Scooby taught him that there are times when you should be bold and times when you should retreat while traveling with him.
Snarf
Snarf, one of the annoying characters in cartoons, considers himself the eldest member when tasked with looking after young Lion-O. Despite his tendency to worry excessively and his somewhat pessimistic outlook, he shows as much courage and loyalty as any other full-sized ThunderCat, especially when it comes to defending Lion-O.
At the series’ onset, Snarf frequently lamented being overlooked by the others and felt redundant as Lion-O matured. However, as the series progressed, he demonstrated that he was every bit a ThunderCat as the rest of the group.
Diego, Dora the Explorer
Diego comes from a family of three children, and he has two daughters himself. While Dora, Diego’s cousin, is the eldest in her family with younger fraternal twin siblings, Guillermo and Isabella, Diego is the youngest, with two older sisters, Daisy and Alicia.
Unlike some annoying cartoon characters, Diego plays a significant role in his show, whereas his cousin Dora plays a minor role in it.
