Here are my picks for the best anime about monsters, leaning toward the monster-slaying side of the fantasy genre. Some are grim and bloody, others have real heart, and a few have both.

No strict ranking here, just shows I think do the monster thing especially well. A quick heads-up: a couple of these get very brutal, and I will flag those as we go.
12Grimgar, Ashes and Illusions

A Few Monster Anime Facts I Like
A handful of extras for the monster fans:
- A lot of these creatures come straight from Japanese folklore. The “ayakashi” spirits of Noragami and the “oni,” the ogre-like demons behind shows like Demon Slayer and Dororo, are ideas that go back centuries.
- Attack on Titan grew into a global phenomenon, with its manga selling well over 100 million copies worldwide.
- Berserk’s creator, Kentaro Miura, drew the series for more than three decades. He died in 2021 with the story unfinished, and a close friend has since continued it from his notes.
