Jennifer Shope is the brains of the Supernoobs. In a team of goofy boys, she is the one who keeps the operation running.

Everyone just calls her “Shope.” She is the smartest Noob, the only girl on the squad, and the wielder of the purple Battle Ball.

The show could have made Shope a boring know-it-all. Instead, Jennifer Shope gets to be smart, brave, occasionally petty, and seriously powerful. That makes her the most well-rounded member of the group.

Full name: Jennifer Shope (goes by Shope)

Team: The Supernoobs (wielder of the purple Battle Ball)

Power: Elemental manipulation of water, lightning, and wind

Role: The genius and only girl of the group

Voiced by: Tabitha St. Germain

Known for: Big brain, red glasses, and a short fuse for nonsense

You can stream every episode of Supernoobs on Prime Video and Apple TV. That makes it easy to see Shope in action.

Who Is Jennifer Shope?

Shope is one of the four kids at the center of Supernoobs. The show follows middle schoolers who get alien Battle Balls and have to fight a planet-eating Virus. She is the logical anchor of a team that badly needs one.

Her civilian look is easy to picture. Shope has tan skin and long, dark hair.

She wears a white collared shirt under a purple sweater, a khaki skirt, and lavender leggings.

Her red glasses and lavender headband finish the look, and she is the only Noob who wears glasses. When she powers up, that dark hair flips to bright purple.

More Than the Smart Girl

It would be easy to file Shope under “generic nerd.” The show gives her a lot more than that. Yes, she is the academic star. She is also brave, protective, and quick to fight for her friends when it counts.

Shope also gets some overdue representation. She is biracial, with a black father and a Brazilian mother, which the show reveals when we meet her parents. As the only girl on a team of chaotic boys, she is the steady center that holds the Noobs together.

The Brains of the Team

Shope is the most scientifically minded Noob, and she will happily remind everyone of it. She provides the team’s tech support, decodes alien gadgets, and usually comes up with the plan while the boys argue.

She is not a perfect student, though, and that is part of her charm.

Shope thinks she is the smartest of the group. Even so, she is not above leaning on her friends to score an easy A. That gap between her ego and her habits keeps her from feeling like a flawless genius.

Shope’s Powers and Battle Ball

Here is where a lot of write-ups get Shope wrong. Her purple Battle Ball does not give her control over machines. It gives her command of the elements. She can bend natural forces to her will:

  • Electricity: Her favorite. She throws lightning more than any other attack.
  • Water: She can summon and shape it in a fight.
  • Wind: She can whip up gusts and tornadoes strong enough to shove a helicopter.

After the Ball Master repairs her Battle Ball, she levels up and gains the power to bend subatomic frequencies. Pair elemental firepower with the sharpest mind on the team, and Shope becomes the Noobs’ heaviest hitter.

Setting the record straight: A lot of fan write-ups claim Shope has “technopathy” and controls technology with her mind. That is a mix-up. She is the science brain of the group, but her Battle Ball power is elemental manipulation, water, lightning, and wind, not machine control.

Shope’s Personality

For all her brains, Shope is basically a tomboy who cares more about science than about fitting in. She can be a bit timid. She will drop that in a heartbeat to defend herself or her friends. Unlike the boys, she thinks before she acts.

She is not a saint, though. In “How to Care for Your Noob,” she loses the class guinea pig. To avoid flunking her project, she forces Kevin to impersonate it in a cage and humiliates him. That selfish streak comes with a temper that flares when anyone questions her smarts. Together they make her feel like a real preteen instead of a cardboard role model.

Did you know? Shope is voiced by Tabitha St. Germain, a huge name in animation who plays Rarity and Princess Luna on My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. Two more fun bits: Shope is the only Noob who wears glasses, and the logo on her sweater is a nod to the sign for the Santiago Metro.

Shope and the Supernoobs Squad

Shope’s relationships keep her grounded in the group:

  • Tyler Bowman: The leader and her science lab partner. They are the two smart ones, though Shope is sure she is the smarter of the pair.
  • Kevin Reynolds: The teammate who annoys her most, and the one who secretly likes her. He once said he wants to marry her someday, though he was under mind control at the time.
  • Theodore Roachmont: Her wildest teammate. His antics test her patience, but the two respect each other.
  • Memnock and Zenblock: The alien mentors. Shope often plays translator between their confusion about Earth and the rest of the team.

Tyler’s take: Shope is the Noob I would trust to save the world. She is the smart kid who is also the strongest fighter, which is a combo you rarely see in these shows. Giving the brain of the team the flashiest powers was a great call. She quietly carries the whole squad.
